Most logos aren’t designed in fifteen minutes, but most designers aren’t Aaron Draplin. Aaron’s a Portland fixture by way of the Midwest, the owner of Draplin Design Co., and an advocate of “blue collar” design: design that works. Here he takes our logo design challenge, creating a dozen iterations of a logo for a fictional construction company. Not inspired?

Just wait. Watch as he sketches, brings his ideas into Illustrator, and tests and tunes the different iterations. The logos Aaron creates prove design can elevate any company or brand.

Along the way, he provides tips for freelancing, finding inspiration, and providing clients context for logos that won’t just live in PDFs.

The IPPA Awards always seem to produce some amazing entries. I guess now that people always have there iPhone handy you never have those moments of  “Crap, i wish i had my camera!”.  Also with the breakthrough iPhone 5′ lens and panoramic HD settings; the sharpness of the shots look as though they have been taken with professional equipment.

From a smiling fox to icy plains, the winners of the iPhone Photography Awards 2014 have been announced across seventeen categories (and not an annoying pouty selfie in sight)…

IPPAWARDS is the longest running iPhone photography competition, taking place annually since 2007, and is open internationally to submissions taken with an iPhone, iPod or iPad. Images cannot be altered in Photoshop or any desktop image-processing program, but the use of iPhone/iPhone photo apps is permitted, whilst originals may be required for verification.  Creative Review

A great brand with an inspirational story…

TOMS charged us with telling their origin story. And tell we did!

We used TOMS’ word-of-mouth marketing strategy as inspiration for a story told by many voices. The script was read by TOMS employees that had been there from the beginning including, of course, Blake Mycoskie.

TOMS didn’t start with an idea for a shoe. In fact, it was the absence of the shoe that started it all… – Giant Ant

When we set out to create a brand, the interior and conceptualising its purpose. The Neighbourhood or location is key; as well as how are people going to use and interact with the space.

Jamie, who has set up Four Barrel Coffee and the Mill had a very clear goal in mind.

No Wifi, seeing the coffee and offerings being prepare by hand and generating a community. These were all part of his business model. As a result he has created an honest and unique brand.
